IANS has obtained a permanent observer status in Coordination Council Eurasia

IANS has obtained a permanent observer status in Coordination Council Eurasia The 36th joint meeting of Coordination Council (CC) and Coordination Group of Experts (CGE) Eurasia took place in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, from 23 to 26 April 2019.  More than 50 representatives attended the meeting.

BANS Took Part in HeliRussia 2018

From May 24 to May 26, 2018, the XI International helicopter industry exhibition HeliRussia 2018 was held at Crocus Expo, Moscow, where BANS exhibited its prototype of the helicopter onboard situational awareness system for helicopter crews (BSSO-B) for the first time.

Russian Nationwide UAV Exhibition and Conference at IANS Aerodrome

Russian Nationwide Exhibition and Conference “Unmanned Aerial Technologies for the Russian Fuel & Energy Sector” will be hosted by IANS on May 31, 2018 at Orlovka Aerodrome. The event is held under the auspices of the Russian Ministry of Energy.

IANS participated in the 3rd International Forum on Civil Aviation Safety that took place in Beijing, China, from May 22nd to 23rd,2018. 

IANS Remote Video Surveillance System Receives IAC Certificate

The Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) has certified the first Russian remote video surveillance system developed by IANS. Similar certification activities are also being carried out by the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya).

UAV flights data support

Usage of governmental and civil unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) for remote monitoring and control of environment and facilities allows to decrease significantly service costs comparing to traditional cosmic and aeronautic systems. Nevertheless widespread use of UAV in civil sector isn’t possible without solving a wide range of scientific and technical tasks, regulatory and organizational problems.

Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) are considered to be rather promising means for civil applications for monotonous or dangerous activities. However UAS dispose a wider range of possibilities including other applications connected with commercial and scientific activities as well as safety provisions. Generally control, communications and acquisition of geoinformational data are related to such applications.

Global manufacturing of UAV:

Practical application of UAS by the leading countries has recognized a number of civil tasks, which are efficiently solved by UAS. Typical control and monitoring tasks include border and maritime patrolling, search and rescue operations, detection of forest fires, natural disasters monitoring, contamination and pollution measurements, road traffic monitoring, as well as surface surveillance. Moreover the capability of some UAS to remain in the air for a long period of time makes them to be exclusively perspective to be used as communication repeater. Meanwhile some other UAS are already used in commercial sphere for imaging purposes (for example, for aerial photography and video filming).

Forecast for the European market of UAV till 2015:

Each of above mentioned tasks has its specifics. It seems impossible to create some universal UAS which would efficiently solve any problem. Therefore there are different UAS classes and subclasses with different functions. Nowadays the European market of civil UAV is estimated at € 1.2 bln ($1.45 bln). This number is reached mainly thanks to the usage of UAV and mini-UAV at low and middle altitudes.

Widespread usage of civil UAV within the country requires elimination of strict rules for their flight performance. It is caused by a number of reasons. If many UAV will be active in one place, they’ll have to track rapidly their trajectory in order to avoid collapsing, and also they must be reliable and crashworthy.

There are should be some rules and limitations during use of UAV by low enforcement bodies and security services. Probably there should be authorized corridors and prohibited areas which will prevent distribution of intelligence information concerning special purpose objects.

Today great attention is paid to the issue of UAV flights organization in a common airspace. ICAO, Eurocontrol, FAA, RTCA, EUROCAE hold discussions concerning principles and technical solutions which should be base for such flights. However there is no definite solution yet.

There are several alternative concepts concerning integration of UAV into the common airspace. The first concept aims at allocation of all existing ATM standards for UAV, including TCAS (traffic alert and collision avoidance system). The second concept proposes realization of UAV flights in specially determined areas. Taking into consideration a number of reasons experts prefer the concept which requires sufficient level of flight safety of all common airspace participants as well as of public safety.

Considering flight safety aspect we should point out that UAV control system should be designed with regard to existing ATM safety methods.

Nowadays ADS-B is considered to be the most promising aircraft surveillance method. This method allows aircrafts to transmit automatically accurate and reliable data via data link to ATM center and other air traffic participants. This data is received from airborne and navigation systems and contains information concerning aircraft’s location and flight parameters. Global satellite positioning system is used as a prime tool to determine navigational parameters of an aircraft. In ATM centers all the information and radar data transmitted from aircrafts are processed and then displayed on controllers working place. Overlapping fields of ADS-B and radar surveillance systems provide controllers with a unified field of view.

Therefore UAV equipped with ADS-B can be monitored in the airspace. However lack of methodology to control UAV traffic in common airspace leads to definite contradictions between needs of UAV practical use in the civil sphere and insufficient theoretical understanding of the topic.

Main research activities of our company in the sphere of UAV flights data support are focused on:
  • Development of UAV control technologies in common airspace using new information technologies of acquisition, processing and transmission of navigational data and control instructions;
  • Classification of requirements for surveillance methods and UAV flight control in common airspace, which would guarantee flight safety of all air traffic participants;
  • Justification of UAV control and surveillance concept.
